Christoffer Enge, Operations & QHSE Manager North Sea, Finland & Baltics Area
Describe your work?
I am responsible for the day-to-day operations of our department. Our team in Sandefjord consists of three different departments; Operations, Sales and Finance. We also have the Regional Director for the North Sea Region in our office.
My department has project coordinators, and project managers, and staff inspectors. We work with companies from all over the globe, which makes our days interesting and at times hectic. We help our clients with inspections in many different countries, from USA to Australia. Our project coordinators are some of the most important employees we have. As part of their job they check all the reports and documents coming through our system, keep daily contact with our customers and maintain customer relations. It’s also expected that we contribute with sales towards these clients, offering them the wide range of products and services we at Intertek have.
What does it take to succeed as a/an Operations Manager?
Both as a project coordinator and project manager you must have a large work capacity and at the same time maintain quality in your work. We speak with our clients every day and it is very important to be able to connect with the people on the other side and maintain a good working relationship with them. In our job, communication is very important as we cooperate with other Intertek offices around the world, as well as inspectors. You need to have that personal quality drive, to want to do things correctly the first time. We enjoy great cooperation here in our office, and you’ll always find someone to ask for advice if needed.
Tell us about your career journey at Intertek?
I started as project coordinator at the company July 2013. Before that I had almost ten years of experience with logistics, in addition to some years in the army and in aviation. After a little over a year of working here, the position as Operations Manager was available and I was asked to take the position, something I gladly accepted. Since then I have had some additional tasks added, one of them being responsible for the internal QHSE, something I find very giving and interesting. I’ve also been able to assist with sales tenders, and had some great success with clients, developing a relationship with them over several years.
How do you perceive Intertek as a company?
Intertek globally contributes to making the world a little bit safer. We have many different business lines providing quality every day, and it’s motivating to be part of it. I have great colleagues here at Intertek and have always felt supported by both my peers and my management throughout my career here. I’ve learned a lot during my years here, both professionally and personally. As Intertek is a large global company it provides many opportunities for growth as well as meeting many intelligent and interesting people.
